Get to know campus with New Student Orientation

Starting college is a big step, whether it’s the move away from home, a new and unfamiliar environment, or stress about coursework and making friends, there’s a lot of uncertainty when it comes to starting college. What’s not uncertain? That it only takes a few days for the University of Providence to feel like home. From dynamic course and club offerings to a vibrant student life on and off campus, Great Falls and greater Cascade County have a lot to offer new students. But where do new students learn about everything the University of Providence in Great Falls has to offer? All new and incoming on-campus freshman and transfer students start their UP journey with New Student Orientation (NSO)—a welcoming, high‑energy introduction to life as an Argo.

What to Expect

New Student Orientation at the University of Providence helps you settle in, explore campus, and connect with your new community. Throughout NSO programming, you’ll take part in activities designed to support both your academic success and your social experience at UP.

 

Who Should Attend

  • First‑year students entering directly after high school are required to attend NSO. This includes student who are commuting to the university and residential on-campus students.
  • Transfer students are not required to participate, but attendance is strongly encouraged
  • All undergraduate students returning or transferring to UP are welcome to join NSO events.
  • Parents, guardians and family of first-year students and transfer students are welcome to attend

 

Orientation is just as important for parents, guardians, and family as it is for students. Everyone in your family is about to experience a transition and can learn how to support one another. Orientation includes a variety of sessions designed specifically for parents and guests. Families are encouraged to help with the move-in as well by making sure your student has completed all the items on the checklist they will receive at NSO before you leave Great Falls.

Movie-In Tips & Tricks

Starting your UP journey is exciting, and with a little preparation, you can make the experience smoother and more enjoyable. These quick tips will help you stay comfortable, energized, and ready to make the most of Move‑In Day and New Student Orientation.

1. Dress Comfortably

Wear casual clothing and comfortable shoes or sandals. Prioritize comfort!

2. Know What to Bring

Read through our Yays and Nays List for living on campus

3. Stay Hydrated

Bring a refillable water bottle so you can stay hydrated throughout Move‑In Day and NSO activities.

4. Eat Regular Meals

Don’t skip meals. Eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner will keep your energy up for the days events.

5. Introduce Yourself

Say hello to the people you meet—you never know who your next friend could be.

6. Run Errands When You Can

Pick up room supplies, toiletries, or groceries. Use breaks to grab anything you forgot.

7. Ask Questions

If something isn’t clear or isn’t making sense, ask. Presenters and staff are happy to help!

8. Have Fun

Whether you’re a new student or a parent, enjoy the excitement of starting this new chapter.
