Outside Scholarship Opportunities for UP Students

At UP, we understand the challenges and costs associated with getting a degree. We want to provide you with all the right tools to succeed, educationally and financially.

Finding the right financial resources to earn a undergraduate, graduate or certification can be intimidating. We want to make it easy for you to explore outside resources in supplementing your degree. We offer each of our students scholarship opportunities, but we understand that some students need more assistance and we want to get you that help. Please check out these outside scholarships that can help you achieve your career goals.

  • Open to undergraduate and graduate students for Fall 2022
  • Students must demonstrate 3.0 + GPA, and submit a 1,200+ word essay
  • One $5,000 scholarship awarded
  • Applications will be reviewed by the Law Offices of Daniel Kim, and judged on originality and quality of submission

National Military Family Association Scholarship

  • Any spouse eligible to hold a valid military ID is eligible to apply
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • are a spouse of a member of the seven Uniformed Services with a valid military ID

Mesothelioma Hub Scholarship
  • $1000 scholarship available to those currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year college, university, or trade school in the United States.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Have current enrollment in a U.S. 4-year or 2-year university or trade school
    • High school seniors who reach or exceed 18 years of age before submission
    • Write relevant essay between 800-1500 words
    • Include two letters of recommendation
    • A headshot that can be featured in announcements if selected

Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
  • $500 scholarship dedicated to the memory of Sherri Rosser
  • Open to students of any educational level and field of study
  • Only application requirement is that the applicant have personally experienced challenges with mental health or have had people close to them who have experienced mental health challenges
    • Applicant will write 500-1000 word essay about how their experience with mental health has influenced their beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations
    • While not required, working or volunteering at organizations that increase mental health awareness, provide mental health support, or research mental health solutions will be a plus on applications

Walter Morales Scholarship for Urban Education Improvement
  • $5000 scholarship awarded to current undergraduate student at a university in the US or High School student that will attend a university
  • Application requirements:
    • Please write a unique essay, less than 1000 words, that addresses and answers the following:
      • “Think about the unique challenges that face urban schools. Urban schools are marked by higher concentrations of poverty, greater racial and ethnic diversity, larger concentrations of immigrant populations, language diversity, and more frequent rates of student mortality. Discuss these and/or other factors that are challenges for urban schools and how you would improve the urban education system.”

  • Varying amount, not less than $500, awarded to applicants at the local level. First place regional recipient will become candidate for one of three $10,000 finalist award
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Provide the primary financial support for yourself and dependents (can include children, spouse, partner, siblings and/or parents)
    • Has financial need
    • Is enrolled in or has been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program
    • Is motivated to achieve education and career goals
    • Has not previously been a recipient of a Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity or Live Your Dream Award

    • Answer all three parts of the prompt in the video essay (max 10 MB -any larger must be compressed)
      • What driving habit could you change to make yourself a safe driver?
