FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DEC 12, 2025
GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – The University of Providence (UP) Board of Trustees has appointed Caroline Goulet, PT, PhD, as the next President of the University of Providence, removing the “interim” title she has held since July. The Board’s decision follows a period of intensive leadership during which Dr. Goulet has guided the institution through significant strategic, academic, and financial initiatives.
“Dr. Goulet has demonstrated exceptional vision, resilience, and commitment to the mission of the University of Providence,” said Bethann McGregor, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “As the university faces challenges in the coming months and year, turning to someone with Dr. Goulet’s depth of higher education leadership experience is not only a blessing but an extraordinary strength for this institution. Her steady hand, clear judgment, and unwavering dedication have earned the full confidence of the Board, our sponsors, and our community. We are pleased to affirm that she is the right person to lead UP into its next chapter.”
Dr. Goulet joined the University of Providence in 2024 and has served in a variety of academic and leadership roles, most recently as Interim President and Provost | Vice President for Academic Affairs. In that capacity, she has led efforts to strengthen academic quality, align programs with workforce and community needs, and advance a comprehensive strategy for long-term institutional sustainability.
“I am deeply honored by the trust the Board has placed in me,” said Dr. Goulet. “The University of Providence has a powerful mission rooted in the legacy of the Sisters of Providence and the healing ministry of the Providence Health System. I look forward to working side by side with our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners as we continue to transform lives through education, service, and faith-filled leadership.”
During her interim tenure, Dr. Goulet has overseen:
- The development and implementation of a multi-year financial and strategic stabilization plan.
- Strengthening of partnerships with Providence Health System and regional community organizations.
- Expansion or refinement of academic programs to ensure excellence, address contemporary student interests, and meet the evolving workforce needs of the region.
- A renewed focus on student success, belonging, and mission integration across campus.
- The creation of the Onward Providence framework to guide the university through its financial exigency and chart a path toward long-term growth.
A physical therapist by training and a Fellow of the National Academies of Practice, Dr. Goulet brings extensive experience in health professions education, academic administration, and mission-driven leadership in both U.S. and international settings.
“The Board is grateful for Dr. Goulet’s willingness to answer this call to service,” added McGregor. “We are confident that, under her leadership, the University of Providence will continue to live out its Catholic, Providence-inspired mission for generations to come.”
Dr. Goulet’s appointment as President is effective December 15, 2025.
