The Nonprofit Management minor at the University of Providence is designed to develop leaders in the social impact sector with the vision to see what is possible in creating a more just, equitable, and humane world and the knowledge and skill set necessary to transform that possibility into reality. The program is built on a bedrock of humanities, with focused study in philosophy, ethics, rhetoric, creative writing, and theology. Through hands-on experience and credentialing, graduates are equipped to launch meaningful careers in nonprofit and NGO work.

- Foundations for Impactful Leadership
Students in the nonprofit management minor will gain the ability to see deeply, contemplate thoughtfully, analyze critically, and communicate persuasively with diverse stakeholders. Through interdisciplinary study in business, leadership, and psychology, students develop a nuanced understanding of community needs, financial sustainability, impactful program development, persuasive storytelling for funding, and the leadership philosophies that drive long-term success.
- Real-World Opportunities
The nonprofit management minor offers distinct opportunities for students to gain real-world experience and practice. Through the nonprofit management internship, students are placed with local nonprofits and NGOs, providing hands-on experience in the field. The cumulative capstone project challenges students to address a real and urgent need in the social impact sector – a great full-spectrum project for a portfolio. The internship, capstone, and curriculum experiences prepare graduates to earn the Certified Nonprofit Professional credential through NLA.
- Exciting Career Opportunities
As a Certified Nonprofit Professional, graduates can work across the non-profit sector – enjoying the benefits and career growth opportunities across the many positions that make up this growing sector. Some positions include Advocacy Directors, Chief Operating Officers, Communication Directors, and Development Directors. Many other opportunities exist as well, all providing avenues for deep and meaningful impact and a strong financial foundation for our graduates.
Nonprofit Management Minor Curriculum
The Nonprofit Management Minor delivers 11 courses totaling 34 credit hours. Students must complete all courses and credit hours to successfully graduate. The minor contains 3 courses in humanities, two courses in business, and additional course across the liberal arts.
