The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) minor at the University of Providence is designed to prepare graduates who can oversee a company’s “triple bottom line,” or the economic, environmental, and social initiatives that ensure a company succeeds in its industry while bettering the communities it was created to serve.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) minor equips students to address the urgent and evolving challenges facing our society. By integrating a strong humanities foundation with targeted coursework in core CSR disciplines, this program prepares graduates to meet the demands of today’s workforce with purpose and insight. Over the past decade, businesses have increasingly been called upon to lead efforts in promoting justice, safety, health, opportunity, and equality. The CSR minor empowers students to rise to these challenges, including:

✔ Climate change, which continues to strain global energy, land, and water resources—creating humanitarian crises such as climate-induced displacement.

✔ Technological disruption, which places new demands on clean water and energy systems while displacing workers across entire industries.

✔ Widening gaps in healthcare and poverty, leaving countless families and children without access to life-saving care or life-affirming opportunities.

✔ Persistent economic inequality fueling instability, street violence, and political unrest.

• Capstone & Certification for Career Readiness

The knowledge students gain from the CSR minor is put into practice during a CSR-focused internship and a senior capstone project. Through these real-world, hands-on experiences, students will have the opportunity to engage and improve corporate actions related to economic, environmental, or social endeavors. The program also prepares students to become certified as a Corporate Social Responsibility Professional through AIBMC.

Employment opportunities for trained and certified graduates are robust. Graduates can look forward to a diverse lineup of roles like Environmental and Social Governance Analysts, Sustainability Managers, Corporate Social Responsibility Managers, Environmental and Social Governance Consultants, and Impact Investing Analysts. Industries CSR graduates can enter include finance and investment, energy and utilities, technology, consumer goods, and healthcare – all of whom actively seek qualified professionals to confidently lead them forward.

Program Curriculum

The Corporate Social Responsibility Minor delivers 10 courses totaling 31 credit hours. Students must complete all courses and credit hours to successfully graduate. The minor contains courses in the humanities, English, business, biology and additional course across the liberal arts.

Specific courses found in the Corporate Social Responsibility minor focus on topics such as Ethics & Enterprise, Supply Chain Management, Environmental Law, Writing for Sciences, and more.
