GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – The University of Providence is taking proactive, mission-driven steps to strengthen its long-term financial sustainability while reaffirming its unwavering commitment to students, faculty, and staff. The university remains open and fully operational, grounded in its Catholic liberal arts mission and focused on serving students and the broader Montana community.
In a recent interview with Montana Free Press, President Caroline Goulet emphasized the University’s determination to address an anticipated $8 million annual budget gap while building a stronger foundation for the future. “This was a necessary and forward-looking step,” Goulet said. “We are committed to making thoughtful, responsible changes now to ensure a strong and sustainable future for our students and our community.”
The University has identified several key priorities to achieve a balanced budget and position the institution for growth:
- Fundraising Expansion: A renewed advancement strategy, led by newly appointed Chief of Advancement Officer Roy Lanham, aims to raise $16 million over four years through strengthened alumni engagement and philanthropic partnerships.
- Strategic Partnerships: The University is actively exploring mission-aligned partnerships and innovative uses of campus facilities that expand academic opportunities while generating new revenue streams.
- Enrollment Innovation: Recruitment strategies are expanding to reach both traditional undergraduate students and adult and non-traditional learners through flexible and career-aligned programs.
- Operational Alignment: Through thoughtful program review and strategic staffing adjustments, the University is aligning resources with student demand while ensuring that current students can complete their degrees without disruption.
University leadership and the Board remain focused on transparency, stewardship, and student success as they guide the institution through this important period.
“We are all in for our students,” Goulet said. “With integrity, determination, and a deep commitment to our mission, we are building a strong and sustainable future for the University of Providence.”
