University of Providence Rejoins National Association of Collegiate Esports

FOR RELEASE: Dec. 9, 2021

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – UP is once again, part of the largest collegiate organization for esports in the country, rejoining the National Association of Collegiate Esports.

UP had previously announced a varsity esports program in 2018 under the athletics department however, it was restructured as a club in 2019 after the coach’s departure.

Now, under new leadership, UP’s esports team will compete in various games, including Rocket League, FIFA, Rainbow 6 Siege, Super Smash Brothers, and League of Legends. The team is looking to add five more games, for a total of 10 games that will be played under the UP esports banner.

UP’s esports team will begin a full-fledged spring season that begins January 2022 and ending in May after spring finals.

“Bringing back competitive esports is something that I had the honor of doing. I was asked to become an advisor for the club and once I said yes, the first thing I wanted to do was put us back on the collegiate scene. With the help of our team captain, student engagement, and student activities departments, we are now back to competing collegiately. I’m happy for the students to finally get to compete and can’t wait to help them through the season,” Michael Ruiz, UP esports Club Advisor.

The university looks forward to bringing back esports, and is excited to be competing with the top universities around the country in the fast-growing competitive gaming space.
