The University of Providence Introduces New Pharmacy Technician Exam-Prep Course

FOR RELEASE: November 2nd, 2022

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – The University of Providence is expanding its pharmacy technician program offerings by launching a new Pharmacy Tech Exam Prep course starting in January 2023.

“We’re launching the Pharmacy Tech Exam Prep course with our Providence partners to assist working technicians looking to get nationally certified as the next step in their career pathway or as a state requirement,” said Angie Walker, Pharmacy Technician Program Manager, and exam-prep course manager.

The 8-week online course will help students study for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam – a national certification for pharmacy technicians in all 50 states.

PTCB offers a list of up-to-date state guidelines on its website. In many states, passing the PTCB certification exam is a requirement for practice – while in others, it is recommended or required by employers.

Targeted toward already working technicians, the course is designed to be flexible yet structured – providing maximum delivery of course materials. The exam-prep course will be offered 100% online through an asynchronous learning format. Students will learn through online videos, individual readings, research, practice quizzes, and PTCB board-approved practice tests.

Students will also have access to open discussion forums where they can interact, collaborate, and ask questions of fellow students or professional instructors. The course is designed to offer the structure and guidance of a traditional learning platform with the flexibility and convenience of a self-paced program.

“Our course combines [all these elements] into one course,” Walker said. “Students will use the PTCB exam prep book as a guide while taking practice tests, focusing on the top 200 medications and math skills, as well as other concepts needed to pass the PTCB exam.”

To enroll in the Pharmacy Technician Exam Prep course, students must meet the eligibility guidelines the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) sets forth. A complete list of requirements can be found on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board website.
