GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – The University of Providence will host Science Days on Dec. 12 and 13 with students arriving between 9 and 10 a.m. The event is oriented toward science and math classes of area high schools. Students have the opportunity to work in small groups in various workshops and observe demonstrations.
The event begins at 10 a.m. with students rotating between the four stations every half hour until noon.
The event is hosted annually by UP to showcase the STEM programs of the university, as well as promote overall science and math literacy.
“We want this event to enlighten students to the potential science and math can bring to our future,” says Diane Lund, associate dean of the math and science division, and professor of biology. “Our goal is to show these high school students all of the different ways science plays a role in our lives. It’s about increasing knowledge in the math and science areas to our community and beyond, and showing how science connects to our everyday lives.”
Faculty in biology, chemistry, math, and exercise science all participate for an engaging day of science demonstrations. This year’s featured events include: Awesome Anthropods, Classic Conic Construction, Drink It Up, Explode into Exercise Science, Magic Sand, and Plastics by the Numbers.
Students are invited to stay for lunch and a campus tour after the event wraps up at noon.
