‘Topping Out’ Ceremony for new University Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DEC 13, 2018

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – The University of Providence continues to make progress on its big, bold vision with the University Center construction project. A ‘Topping Out’ Ceremony is set to take place Dec. 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the construction site on the 20th Street South side of campus.

The term ‘Topping Out’ refers to the installation of the final piece of structure for completion of the roof on a building or other large construction project. It signifies that the structure has reached its maximum height, but not that the project has reached completion.

“The Topping Out ceremony marks a pivotal milestone in the timeline for our University Center,” says Tony Aretz, president of the University of Providence. “We are planning to open for fall 2019 to offer our students new state-of-the-art resources, as well as offering the Great Falls community a premier business and conference facility.”

Students, faculty and staff are welcome to observe the ‘Topping Out’ from a secure viewing area outside of the construction site near the Theatre Building. Following the ceremony in the lobby of the Theatre Building is a reception with appetizers and beverages.

Along with a new classroom, lecture hall, and collaboration rooms, the University Center will house Argo Central (which includes admissions and a one-stop-shop for student services), administration offices, the Trinitas Art Gallery, and a multipurpose meeting space that can be used for large banquets or meetings. The classroom, which can be used as a small conference room, will hold up to 30 and the lecture hall, which can be used as a large conference room, will hold up to 60. The multipurpose conference and banquet room will accommodate 300 seated at large round tables, 420 in rows of chairs and 700 standing room only.

The University Center is part of a $25-million grant which also includes a wrestling practice facility that opened this fall and updates to the Student Center that opened fall 2018. These projects are a result of the long standing partnership between the University of Providence and Providence St. Joseph Health.
