A Note from the President

For the inaugural issue of UPdate, there is no better topic to lead with than the mission of our university. Our mission is fundamental and something every one of us identifies with in some way. We invite you to embark with us on this Year of Mission.

We are beginning this journey with two sessions this spring led by Father Oliver. The first session is being offered on multiple days in February and will help us to better understand the essence of a mission-based enterprise. The second session will take place in April and will discuss the mission of Catholic higher education. We want to dive into what it means to be a Catholic institution and why that is a mission in and of itself.

PSJH will also unveil a new mission statement that will help guide our future efforts.  After this unveiling, we plan to begin a process to re-examine our own UP mission statement.  Over the next year or so we will engage in a campus conversation to align our UP mission statement with the new PSJH mission statement and also see if there might be a more impactful way to express our UP mission.

As we continue the process of re-creating our university, it is important to remain rooted in our mission. Our hope is that in this Year of Mission you will deepen your understanding and commitment to our mission and that we will become known for who we are, what we stand for, and how we serve.
