VP of Advancement, Lisa B. Flowers, PhD

I am extremely happy to join the staff at the University of Providence. My roots are in Montana and I am pleased to be back in Great Falls to develop and implement a comprehensive Advancement plan, provide leadership and supervision to develop a metric driven and creative philanthropic culture at the University.

Most recently, I have been working in the non-profit wildlife and natural resource conservation arena as a director of programs with educational and fundraising responsibilities in Texas. My previous experience in diverse workplaces throughout Montana have afforded me the knowledge, skills and abilities to work as a dynamic team member with the UP leadership, Board and with the Advancement team.

My experience with developing and managing a portfolio of donors was a key function of my positions with the McLaughlin Research Institute and the Montana State University Alumni Foundation for Great Falls College MSU. Both experiences provide me with the knowledge and skill set to be able to quickly learn the fundraising framework used at UP. Grant writing and the management of the designated funds including annual reporting, has been a component of each of the positions I held. I have broad experience with individual donors, private foundations and public grantors for research, scholarships, bricks and mortar and projects specific grants. Collaborating with the President, Board, staff, faculty, alumni and community stakeholders to meet fundraising goals for long-term sustainable growth is an essential responsibility I am familiar with, and one I enthusiastically look forward to being engaged in.

My lifestyle has always included playing team sports from grade school through college, and then following my daughter and her teams through high school. As a professional and certified educator and engaged community member, I have had a variety of experiences with people of all ages. These range from working in K-12 classrooms, conducting outdoor education activities with classroom teachers and their students, university students, conducting summer outdoor adventure camps, and always being an engaged member in my community. I am motivated to be directly involved with building supportive relationships with individuals, families, volunteers, businesses, and corporations to meet the long-range fundraising targets of the University of Providence.

Being active and getting outdoors is an essential part of my life. So, whenever I can go for a hike, run, ride horseback, ski, paddle the rivers and lakes or help others do the same, life is good!

As the new Vice President of Advancement at University of Providence I will work with the University leadership, Board, and others within the organization to identify linkage, ability, and interest of major gift prospects for their solicitation in alignment with the UP strategy and priorities.

My primary responsibilities with the Advancement team are:

  • Develop and implement an updated plan for major and planned gifts, corporate support, and grants.
  • Oversee the comprehensive calendar of Advancement activities and events.
  • Ensure success in fundraising events and cultivation at all events.
  • Provide guidance and support to the President, Board, and key volunteers in their major gift work.
  • Ensure proper stewardship practices for the timely and accurate recording and acknowledgement of all gifts.
  • Work closely with UP supporters to identify prospects and existing donors with passion for the UP mission, athletics, and academics to grow the scholarship endowment for all students.
  • Develop and implement strategies that promote long-term sustainable growth and deepen the Universities’ relationships with alumni and existing and new donors.

The major goals for the Advancement office in next 6 months is first, to gain a clear understanding of the current state of the Advancement operations on a day to day basis. Second, to work with the leadership and Advancement team to develop and implement a concise plan to reinvigorate fundraising efforts at the University. The overarching purpose is to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising program to provide the philanthropic resources necessary to support and sustain the University of Providence mission well into the dynamic future.

I am dedicated and professional by nature and pride myself in being a strategic thinker, prompt and highly organized. It is such a gift to be back in Great Falls working at the University of Providence with individuals who believe in the vision of “providing transformational education programs that develop talent and leadership capability for the Common Good and 21st Century health care”.
