Traditional BSN
Overview: The Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Vander Werff) program is a four-year degree program designed to prepare recent high school graduates and transfer students with the skills they need to seek initial licensure and become a registered nurse. The Vander Werff program combines a liberal arts education with clinical and professional nursing skills – developing qualified nursing graduates.
Degree Information: The Vander Werff BSN degree program is designed for completion over four consecutive years, with students completing coursework over traditional 16-week semesters. In total, students will enroll for eight semesters and will be required to complete a total of 120 credits for graduation. In addition, students will be required to complete clinical credits, a nursing clinical immersion, and skill lab courses as part of the required Vander Werff BSN degree program coursework.
Enrollment / Requirements: Two admissions options are available to students enrolling in the Vander Werff Program: Direct Entry Admission and Pre-Nursing Admission. All interested students first apply for Direct Entry Admission. Applicants who do not initially meet admission criteria for the direct entry enrollment or decide they would like to apply to the Vander Werff program after enrolling at the UP under a different program will be invited to apply as a pre-nursing student.
Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science In Nursing
Overview: The Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) program is a 12-month degree program designed for currently licensed registered nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing seeking their bachelor’s degree in nursing. The RN-BSN degree program builds off a previously earned Associate Degree in Nursing to prepare nurses for more advanced roles in the field.
Degree Information: The RN-BSN degree program is designed for completion in 12 consecutive months. Students complete a total of three semesters, each broken down into two, eight-week intensive sessions. Students are required to complete 36 credits for successful completion of the program – including two Core requirements for all students who do not retain an existing bachelor’s degree.
Enrollment / Requirements: In addition to the undergraduate admission requirements, students interested in pursuing an RN-BSN degree must hold an unincumbered registered nurse license and have earned their nursing diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited university. Enrollment for the RN-BSN program takes place every fall (august) and spring (January) of each year – with students progressing through the program alongside their enrollment cohort.
Accelerated BSN
Overview: The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program is a 12-month accelerated degree program designed for current bachelor degree holders to seek initial licensure and become a registered nurse. This BSN degree pathway combines in-person nursing skill labs and clinical immersions with online coursework to prepare students for a rewarding career in nursing.
Degree Information: The Accelerated BSN degree program is designed for completion in 12 consecutive months. Students enter the program in January of each year and complete coursework through December of that same year. The program is broken down into three semesters administered over two eight-week intensive sessions per semester. Students are required to complete a total of 56 credits to graduate from the Accelerated BSN program, including all required skill labs and clinical immersions.
Enrollment / Requirements: In addition to the undergraduate admission requirements, students interested in pursuing an Accelerated BSN degree are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in any field or disciple from an accredited university. Students are also required to reside in or move to one of the clinical lab locations in Lewistown, Montana or Anchorage, Alaska throughout the duration of the program. In addition to residency requirements, students are strongly encouraged to avoid outside employment while enrolled in the ABSN program due to the intense nature of course deadlines and course demand.
