Dr. Sarah Spangler teaches interdisciplinary courses in the humanities and is the director of the Lumen de Lumine Core. She taught at Rosemont College and Fordham University before joining the UP faculty in 2011. Her dissertation explored the intersection of faith and reason in the early church, focused on the scriptural commentaries by Origen, under Fr. Joseph Lienhard, SJ. Her research interests include the Greek foundations of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. She also serves on the advisory board for the diaconate for the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings.

The lay leadership model pioneered by the Sisters of Providence in their hospitals and colleges has guided her work. Dr. Spangler serves on multiple committees to facilitate her core curriculum role. She is available for speaking engagements both within the university and in the larger community on the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.

A native Montanan, she grew up in Superior. She enjoys hiking and kayaking in the summers there.
