The exercise science major allows the student to prepare for a career as a health/fitness professional. Careers in the health/fitness industry include personal trainer, strength & conditioning specialist, corporate fitness coordinator, cardiac rehabilitation technician, physical therapy aide, occupational therapy aide, coach, umpire/referee, sports/recreation manager, sports/recreation administrator, and more. With some additional science courses, students can prepare for graduate study in exercise physiology, athletic training, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.


Career Preparation

Students will gain classroom, laboratory, and hands-on experience in a wide range of subject areas including:

  • Exercise Science
  • Kinesiology and Applied Anatomy
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Coaching
  • Physical Education
  • Recreation and Fitness Management

The culminating experience for this course of study is an internship in the community in a student interest related area, such as health club management, athletic trainer/physical therapist/occupational therapist job shadowing, personal trainer job shadowing, or sports information/management opportunities. While not a requirement for graduation, certification through a national accrediting body is encouraged.

This major offers opportunities for employment in the health, fitness, and sports fields as well as access to graduate study and certification options.
