Computer Science Program Overview

The university offers a leading-edge major in computer science emphasizing the field of informatics—the way in which organizations employ computers to manage information.

Students at the university learn while working closely in small classes with faculty who not only have extensive academic preparation but who have also worked extensively in the subject areas they teach. Computer Science curricula at the University of Providence are based on recommended curricula from the leading professional organization in Computer Science—the Association for Computing Machinery.  As such, our curriculum is a blending of the theoretical and the practical.  Not only do students get hands-on learning with practical tools from experienced practitioners in the field, they learn the underlying theoretical framework that is so important in being able to keep up in an extremely rapidly changing field. Students enrolling in Computer Science at the university will learn the latest concepts in programming, software engineering, security, networking, systems analysis and development, and database design and management.

The Computer Science major allows for specialization concentrations in the areas of networking and security.
