We’re offering an introductory workshop next Wednesday for those interested in developing a designated Writing-Intensive (WI) course. As Sarah mentioned yesterday, we’ll need these on the schedule for our new core starting in Fall 2018. This means the proposals for these Fall 2018 courses will need to be submitted for review in January 2018 so we can schedule them on time.
The plan for this workshop is to provide an introduction to Writing Across the Curriculum principles and best practices, to engage with the criteria we’ve drafted specifically for UProvidence Writing Intensive courses, and to make a plan for revising a particular course to submit for review. To that end, please bring a syllabus for a core or major course you would like to receive Writing Intensive designation.
I know we have a meeting with the President at 11, so the plan is to start when that finishes around noon. We’ll have lunch brought in. Please let us know if you wish to attend by noon on Monday so we have an accurate headcount.
Provided technological snags are sorted out by then, we’ll try to record the workshop. At the very least, we’ll make all the materials available online afterwards. Those unable to attend due to orientation can also make an appointment with Curt or me during the next few weeks to go over the material.
We’re trying to make the process of implementing WAC as collegial, well-supported, and pleasant as possible. Looking forward to working with you.
