Argo Internship Insights: Why An Internship Matters

Not sure if you should apply for an internship?

Don’t fret! You are not the only one in this debate. Many students are not sure how to start or where to find internships.

Megan Haugen, upcoming 5th year, is a business administration major (with a concentration in finance) at UP. This summer, Megan has been working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Great Falls, Montana as a management trainee intern and has found her position very rewarding.

Megan was able to get a personal introduction with Enterprise through UP’s Career Services, specifically through our Argo Build a Career Tuesday (ABC Tuesday) where various companies and local businesses visit campus to recruit for internship and job opportunities.

“I was talking to Rod [UP Director of Career Services] a lot throughout the year for job opportunities and stuff like that. And, he recommended me to do this internship first thing. So, I have always been interested in it. They also came to the school. They had a bunch of flyers and I spoke to the recruiter at ABC Tuesday.”

Apart from internships being required for some degree programs, Megan saw an opportunity.

“I also thought an internship would be a good way to get a foot in the door before starting a career path.”

Now, she has a job offer that she is considering after graduation.

Megan recommends other students apply for internships whether it be Enterprise or another company. She finds that internships can unlock many skills and are a great way to explore different industries.

“I definitely think an internship is a good idea because it doesn’t just throw you into something that you are locked into.”

Through Enterprise’s internship opportunity, Megan gained bountiful opportunities for character development and finds that she has grown both personally and professionally.

Overall, Megan says this internship has led her to feel more confident and perfecting her skills in the future.
