Step 2: Federal Direct Stafford Loans

All first-time borrowers at the University of Providence are required to complete Loan Entrance Counseling. The rights and responsibilities of a student borrower are outlined in the counseling session. Loans proceeds will not disburse to student accounts until the counseling is complete. The counseling session will take about 30 minutes, and will take you step-by-step through the loan process. The financial aid office will be notified electronically of successful completion of entrance counseling.

A Master Promissory Note (MPN) is a promissory note that can be used for one or more academic year, for multiple loans. A completed MPN must be on file before loan proceeds will disburse to a student account. Only one MPN is required for both Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans, and will be valid for up to ten years. The MPN on-line process may take up to 30 minutes to complete. You will be required to provide names, addresses and phone numbers for two references who have known you for at least 10 years, and are not in the same household. The financial aid office will receive electronic confirmation of the completion of the MPN, but it is suggested that a copy of the MPN be printed and kept for your records.

If you have accepted a Direct Stafford loan and are a first-time borrower at University of Providence, you must complete the online entrance counseling and a Master Promissory Note to receive your Federal Stafford loan funds. Additional information regarding these requirements may also be viewed at the link provided.
