POSITION SUMMARY

The Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) program offers didactic content delivered through an online education program and experiential learning provided at various clinical sites. The BSN program Site Coordinator serves as a faculty member and may provide clinical education for students.  Additionally, they serve as coordinator for a designated geographic locale.  They oversee readiness and smooth operation of clinical sites within the designated area.  The Site Coordinator works in partnership with program faculty to refine, implement and evaluate the curriculum to ensure quality outcomes which meet program accreditation and regulation standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Works closely with the BSN Program Faculty/Lead and co-faculty to assure content and delivery mechanisms are appropriate and effective.

  • Teaching Load: The Site Coordinator carries a variable teaching load throughout the 12-month academic year, resulting in a level of documented learner satisfaction and demonstrated success in achieving program and student learning outcomes.
  • Teaching Role
    • Clinical education is closely linked to the didactic content provided by online faculty.
    • Clinical education may be provided at multiple sites within the geographic regions with approval of SHP Nursing Division Chair and BSN Program Faculty/Lead.
    • Clinical education may be provided with support of additional Clinical Instructors with approval of the SHP Nursing Division Chair and BSN Program Faculty/Lead.
    • All teaching responsibilities are conducted in compliance with employment agreement, University policies, procedures, Code of Conduct, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Coordinator Role: The Site Coordinator has primary responsibility for assuring that experiential clinical education meets program goals.
    • Assures sufficient Clinical Instructors to provide safe and sufficient oversight of students.
    • Assists with development and maintenance of simulation and clinical practice lab facilitates as required for student learning, including oversight of equipment and supplies.
    • Assists in development and maintenance of strong and positive relationships within the clinical sites and health care community.
    • Evaluates sites to support student learning for all clinical experiences, including behavioral health, maternal-child care, population health, and other courses. Provides input and recommendations about those sites to the BSN Program Lead.
    • Schedules student learning experiences within approved clinical sites and assures that leadership and staff are prepared to receive students and support their learning.
    • Receives and responds appropriately to feedback and input from leaders and staff at each clinical site.
    • Evaluates student performance and consolidates input from other Clinical Instructors. Provides clear and meaningful input to other members of the faculty team about student performance.
    • Meets with students as needed to offer additional instruction and supportive guidance to improve performance. Develops or assists in development of individualized learning contracts with students if needed.
    • Participates in any required remediation or disciplinary process in consultation with BSN BSN Program Faculty/Lead and SHP Nursing Division Chair.
    • Represents the interests and program needs of the clinical site to the BSN Program Faculty/Lead and SHP Nursing Division Chair.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings of the program faculty.
  • Contributes to development of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Participates in offering and evaluating student orientation.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL POSITION COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Current knowledge of professional issues in nursing and healthcare.
  • Current expertise as an RN clinician in an acute care setting.
  • Ability to role model professional appearance and comportment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Excel).
  • Attains and maintains sufficient proficiency with support services for the BSN program – ATI, Proctor U, and Castlebranch.
  • Certification as Certified Online Instructor (COI), Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and/or certification in a clinical specialty is preferred.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate degree in nursing required; Earned doctorate in nursing or higher education-related field preferred. Current, unencumbered RN license.
  • Ability to obtain a Montana RN license or privilege to practice from the Nurse License Compact and an RN license (or privilege to practice) in the state of clinical coordination.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous teaching instruction in nursing.
    • Experience in teaching entry-level nursing students is preferred.
  • Application of evidence-based practice.
    • Expertise and success in clinical evidence–based research preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of adult learning and educational theories and techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and excellent time management skills
    • Proven project management experience preferred.
